Top Proven Ayurveda Health Tips for the Elderly

Ayurveda health tips can help protect your body from all kinds of bacteria and infection. Ayurveda is an all-natural approach to harmonize your mind, body, and soul. The word ‘Ayurveda’ means ‘the science of life’.

Ayurveda health date as far back as 5,000 years. It’s an ancient healthcare system that focuses on life, overall well-being, and longevity – be it mental, physical or spiritual. Ayurveda is based on the following three key principles:

  • Kaya Chikitsa (treatment of the body)
  • Ahaar (food acting as internal medicine)
  • Nidana (the diagnostic actions)

According to Ayurveda, the entire nature (including human beings) is created from a combination of five essential elements: Earth, Air, Space, Water, and Fire. These fundamental elements uniquely create and design a distinct blueprint for each one of us called ‘Dosha’.

There are fundamentally three major Doshas: Kapha, Pitta, and Vata. You can consult an Ayurvedic expert to know about your Dosha. It will help you determine the nutritional needs and lifestyle choices to help you achieve optimal beauty and wellness.

Ayurveda Health Tips for the Elderly

Following are some simple and effective Ayurveda health tips for seniors:

1.) Drink lukewarm water:

Lemon juiceAdd lemon juice to the lukewarm water and consume it first after getting up in the morning. The acidic properties of the lemon don’t allow the accumulation of toxic elements in your digestive tract. Lemons also have minerals and vitamins that help clean toxins in your digestive tract.

I do this every morning before I do my gym work out, it just cleans me out and is so refreshing.

2.) Eat green smoothie:

The green smoothie should be the essential part of your breakfast. Ayurveda emphasizes seasonal ingredients and diet which balance out the properties of the surrounding nature, and they are so yummy.

3.) Scrape your tongue:

Take a quick look at your tongue daily in the morning. According to Ayurveda, you can learn a lot about your body by simply examining your tongue. It can even tell you how you want to start your day.

Ayurveda healthA pink tongue suggests a body with a clear digestive tract and healthy organs. A tongue with a layer of coating, lint, quivers, bumps and teeth indentations suggests a body with undigested food or clogged organs which further means that there are toxins remaining in your body.

The first step to clear them out is to scrape your tongue so that these toxins don’t re-enter into your body through your mouth. You can use a tongue scraper which is easily available online or at most of the health stores. Use stainless steel tongue scrappers since these don’t rust easily.

I have been doing this since I was 15 (I am now 65) and people use to think I was nuts, I don’t know why I did it, and 50 years ago there wasn’t anything around saying you should, my mouth just felt cleaner, I now know that it means so much more.

4.) Have an oil massage:

Having an oil massage nourishes your skin and the inner tissues of your body, removes impurities from the blood, and relaxes your nervous system.

Just like a machine requires greasing, your body also needs an oil massage for protection against the ravages of the time and environment as well as sheer pleasure. Always use cold-pressed and organic oils for body massages.

Before starting the massage you can also gently heat the oil the following way:

  • Pour 1/4 – 1/8 cup of oil into a clean plastic bottle.
  • Place the bottle in hot water.
  • Let it warm for 5 minutes.

Perform the Ayurvedic oil massage using your fingers as well as the palms of your hands in the following way:

  • Stroke up-and-down over the limbs
  • Stroke circular over the abdomen and joints

After finishing the oil massage, leave the oil on the body for 15 to 30 minutes. Then take a hot shower. The hot water helps open-up the skin pores which allow the oil to reach the deeper tissues of your body.

Every 2 weeks I have a luxurious oil massage, I usually have it on a Friday midday after doing 5 days at the gym, total luxury. Having it this time of the day gives me plenty of time to drink plenty of water to wash out all the toxins.

1.) Radiant flawless skin:

Ayurvedic herbs such as sandalwood (Chandan) can help improve your skin naturally. Sandalwood has a calming effect on the skin and is frequently used to remove blemishes, treat acne and improve skin tone.

You can quickly prepare a refreshing face mask by making a paste of a teaspoon of sandalwood powder, turmeric, and a few rose water drops.

You also need to consume iron-rich foods such as carrots, pomegranate juice and beetroot juice which purify the blood naturally and give a natural radiance to your skin.

According to Ayurveda, hair loss occurs because of the pitta dosha. This dosha governs your digestive and metabolic system. Other reason for hair loss could be certain hormonal imbalances.

To support and preserve the hair follicles and balance the pitta dosha, you need to eat a lot of nutritious food. Your diet must include foods such as cinnamon, coconut oil, buttermilk, and fruits like pomegranates, melons, and grapes. Coconut water is calcium-rich that supports hair growth.

Healthy drinkAyurveda has all the answers to most of your stomach-related problems such as indigestion, bloating and gas. You just need to analyze what you eat and how you eat. It could be as simple as the way you sit and eat. The stomach should attain a relaxed posture in order to function properly when you sit and eat.

The majority of the stomach problems arise when Agni (the digestive fire) weakens. So, you need to practice to ignite it prior to having your meals. Have a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger mixed with a pinch of salt and a few drops of lime. These ingredients will stimulate the salivary glands to generate the essential digestive enzymes which help in the digestion and absorption of the consumed food.

4.) Weight loss:

According to Ayurveda’s Vedic tradition, your digestive system is really crucial that affects the majority of the body functions. So, your digestive system needs to be really active and strong if you want to lose weight fast.

According to Ayurveda health tips, the Agni (the digestive fire) is strongest at noon. So, you should have your largest meal of the day during that period. During the early morning, the Agni is sluggish and during late night, it slows down.

Sipping warm water after waking up (or have your lemon drink) and throughout the day can also help lose weight. Warm water raises the temperature of your body that increases your metabolic rate. This allows your body to lose weight by burning more calories throughout the day.

Try these simple Ayurveda health tips to help keep your mind, body, and spirit in harmony, and achieve optimal beauty and wellness.
