One powerful and simple way to cut down on the stress that threatens your well-being is to learn how to breathe. Breathing to control and cut down on stress is different and researchers have found that performing the correct breathing techniques can significantly decrease stress.

The slow breathing techniques of yoga involve exclusively focusing on your breathing – inhaling and exhaling. Studies indicate that quietly focusing on your breathing for only ten minutes per day can reduce stress by over 40%.

Exercise is also a top stress reliever. Even if your physical condition won’t let you engage in high power aerobics, you can find some type of exercise that will help control stress.

Stretching, dancing, swimming and walking are all stress relievers that are easy on the body, but have an incredible impact on slowing the aging process. Omega-3 fatty acids are also helpful in helping to keep you in a good mood and reducing stress.

You can get your daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids by eating fish, but if you don’t think you get enough, try a supplement of EPA and DHA fish oils. Talk to your doctor about other supplements such as B-vitamins to help you control stress.

Talk to your health care provider if the stress in your life seems to be overwhelming. There may be a therapeutic method such as biofeedback or one-on-one sessions with a therapist that could work for you and help you learn how to control stress.
